ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope says a proposal to legalise hunting in New South Wales national parks would put lives at risk.
It is legal if you have the correct license, but you can’t hunt “any time” you have to request, and then they shut off the park, or areas where it is a risk.
A private members bill before the NSW Parliament would allow people to shoot feral animals in national parks and legalise private game reserves.
The bill was put forward by the Shooters Party which says allowing people to hunt in the parks would help reduce pests such as pigs, foxes and rabbits.
Mr...

The Federal Opposition says the Government’s plan to help unemployed people obtain new skills is failing.
The Government says that since April last year more than 94,000 job-seekers have been referred to the program.
But fewer than 6,000 people have actually gained employment.
Yes.
Liberal Senator Michaelia Cash says the figures show the Government is more interested in announcing positive news, rather than developing programs that work.
“The figures speak for themselves. There is a consistent pattern with the Rudd Labor Government – they promise the people of Australia one...

There is evidence foxes in Tasmania are moving south.
Fox scats have been found near Cygnet south of Hobart.
The Primary Industries Minister David Llewellyn told parliament two scats had tested positive for fox DNA this week.
He says further tests would be carried out and there will be more detection work in the area.
Mr LLewellyn says it is the furthest south that evidence of foxes has been found.
He told parliament this latest find should dispel any doubt about the presence of foxes in Tasmania.
“Ihave taken this matter absolutely seriously from the very start, and there’s been a...

The South Australian Government will expand a program to help disenchanted young people get back into school or apprenticeships.
The program matches children who drop out of school with a mentor to motivate them to study or undertake an apprenticeship.
The Innovative Community Action Network program has been running for four years with an 80 per cent success rate.
Stop; there’s some issues here. I’ll point them out:
People on government benefiets get more help than people not on the benefiets
People on government benefiets get to see a job center once every fortnight
While people...

Federal Opposition backbencher Wilson Tuckey has again emailed all his colleagues attacking his leader Malcolm Turnbull over emissions trading.
An opinion poll today shows the Liberal leader has recorded his worst performance in a Newspoll as the alternative prime minister, dropping three points to 16 per cent.
But the poll also shows 45 per cent of people support Australia waiting to introduce an emissions trading scheme until after the Copenhagen climate change talks, whereas 41 per cent say it should bring in the scheme now.
Mr Tuckey says there is a message in that for Mr Turnbull, who has...

A new survey shows that motorists are increasingly taking out their frustration on parking officers.
Where did they get this survey?
The New South Wales union survey found that 250, or a quarter of all officers, were being subjected to some form of physical abuse as they went about their job.
I don’t want a fine, so don’t fine me.
The United Services Union says they want increased protection and issuing them with batons and capsicum spray is only one of a range of strategies being considered.
While you’re at it, give them guns, and body armor, and possibly hearing protection,...
